Obesity restricts the mobility of a person and increases the risk of developing or worsening many serious health conditions or diseases such as anxiety, hypertension, sleeping disorder, blood sugar and even cardiovascular diseases (heart problem) due to excess of bad cholesterol (ldl) and triglycerides. Obesity is also the main reason of joints problem particularly knee joints. Obesity is considered even more damaging than smoking or drinking, as it affects all major body organs, including the heart, lungs, muscles, and bones. Researchers have linked obesity to almost 30 medical conditions that can be avoided by reducing the weight. Physical health problems such as increased blood pressure, diabetes, sleep apnea, and asthma are all amplified as a result of obesity. It also leads to psychological problems such as low self-esteem, depression, and eating disorders. Loss of self-esteem is also one of the major effects of having several ramifications. Loss of self-esteem is a very serious and complex problem as its effect is very deep routed and may push an individual into depression. What is creating some of these problems? The answer is really very simple. One is how we eat. Most everyone is eating fast food once or twice a week at a minimum. Fast food is full of everything that is not healthy. High fats, carbohydrates and calories all lead to weight gain and in turn, the increased risk of getting diabetes. Fast food should be avoided, or at least reduced to only an occasional meal. Along with the fast food comes the soda. Fast food restaurants and all convenience stores now serve up monster-sized sodas for everyone to consume. 48 oz or 64 oz cups of soda are now commonplace wherever you go. The sugar and carbs these drinks contain are enormous. Others might make fun of obese people which might not be good for the self esteem of the individual. A lot of emphasis is often placed on good looks and appearance. This too can have an impact on obese people. Many people consider obese people to be lazy and gluttonous, which might not always be true. Obese people might suffer from emotional effects of obesity as well as psychological effects. All of the above mentioned problems might be common for such people - but still many times overweight people might not have any more psychological problems than other people of average weight. Still its always a good idea to keep your weight in check and try to lose any unwanted weight in a healthy manner. What causes obesity in children and young adults? The causes can be linked to a variety of factors, including nutrition, family, genetics, and physical activity. If one has an obese parent, the chances are 50-50 that the child will grow up to be obese. When both parents struggle with this problem, the percentage of risk is even greater – eighty percent. While genetics to do play a significant role in factoring obesity, it is important to keep in mind that bad eating habits, stress, and lack of exercise can also contribute to overweight and obesity. The effects of childhood obesity are numerous. High cholesterol, high blood pressure, and the development of diseases such as type 2 diabetes are all major health risks that result from obesity. Obese adults frequently struggle against heart disease. Children with a normal healthy rate rarely suffer from these conditions. |
