Massage therapy is perhaps one of the oldest and most popular complementary therapies with history that can be traced thousands of years ago. People use massage therapy for various health related purposes. Its aim is basically wellness and health of the patient. Massage therapy is very effective when done by a professional massage therapist. Massage Therapy: An Overview It involves kneading, rubbing and stroking of a person’s body to achieve the desired result. The applied pressure depends on the type of massage and the needs of the patient. Different types of massage also use different massage techniques. For instance, the Swedish massage is comprised of long strokes and kneading on muscle and stimulating joint to foster flexibility. Massage therapy is tricky and it should only be provided by a professional massage therapist. By professional massage therapist, it means he should be a person who has undergone rigorous massage trainings and has earned a certificate. He must have mastered the techniques of the type of massage he is offering. Some massage therapists still undergo formal schooling to get their massage certificate. Professional massage therapists also carry a license to administer massage. Massage therapy professionals know the massage techniques from the grounds up. They know which part of the body is so delicate and should be given extra care when massaging. They study the human body and the major points of the body that needs to be focused on during a massage therapy session. Beware Not All Massage Therapists Are Professional There are those who offer massage but they don’t have any trainings, certificate and license. You should be extra careful because wrong massage techniques can lead to serious health and body problems. In the hands of an unprofessional massage therapist, your health and body are at risk. There are medical conditions that restrict a person from getting a massage. One who hasn’t undergone trainings about massage will not know about this. If massage is administered wrongly, the patient will experience discomfort, body pain, bruising, swelling and even allergy. So it is best to go to a professional massage therapist only. |
