Lighting plays a major role in shaping the look and feel of your home. Well-planned lights will give you the required illumination while you read, paint, make meals or engage in other hobbies. Indoor lighting covers accent, task and ambient lighting. Chandeliers can contribute to the sophistication and elegance in your living room by providing light either directly or indirectly. Accent lighting is a kind of decorative lighting which sets focus on pieces of art. Task lighting comprises of individual fixtures that direct light at the work area. Ambient lighting is of the soft type and supplements the other lighting fixtures in the room. If you would like to indulge in outdoor lighting, normally what comes to mind are the lamp posts and porch lights. But you could also consider landscape lighting which includes mini ground torch lanterns and ground level canister lights to improve the look of your back or front yard. Even better than the regular gnome that glows in the dark, these outdoor lights create a well-lit pathway at night without marring the look of your home during the day. A lantern on the wall on either side of your door will not only look good but will give you sufficient light as well. Spotlights installed in a tree or two will add to the dйcor and the pathway will be well lit. If you are on the lookout for a new look within your home then you could opt for picture lights, wall lamps and the like to highlight artwork and family photos. Some of the ideal ones are the canister styled lights which are small and easily installable and yet bright enough to show off the art and come with a switch to adjust the brightness or dimness as you may find the need. Although selecting light fixtures is a matter of each one’s taste, people nowadays would rather use incandescent and fluorescent bulbs which save a lot of energy. Ability to dim the lights is a good idea for a living room as you can change the intensity depending on the activity or mood. Table lamps, small specialty lamps and torches are suitable and can provide task, diffuse and accent features. All the old stuff comes back in fashion and chandeliers are no exception. These light fixtures have lost out in points in the last few decades because of the misconception that they require time-consuming maintenance. Just like everything else that comes back into fashion, the chandeliers of today differ from their ancestors in some ways, the most notable being the price. Light fixture producers have made the beautiful ones accessible to the general public at a cost which runs into several hundred dollars today instead of thousands. This is because the producers have been willing enough to diverge from the regular crystal and brass design. Although the conventional models are still available in plenty, homeowners can now buy chandeliers that are made out of rustic iron, stone, alabaster or bamboo. Pastoral antler types, too, are coming back in fashion appreciated by both the sophisticated and those with a fair amount of taste. Stained glass Tiffany-style chandeliers are making a comeback but the gaudy patterns of yore are being replaced by neutral, softer hues. And most interesting of all is that while a few years ago homeowners hated the idea of hanging up a chandelier, the latest fashion today is to use two smaller ones rather than one big one to light up a space. |
