South America Colombia is blessed with a varied topography with discontinuous and narrow coastal lowlands of the Pacific. The coastal lowlands are bordered by the narrowest and lowest of Colombia's mountains ranges - Serrania de Baudo. Another major region of Colombia are the Lowlands of Rio Atrato and Rio San Juan. The Cordillera Occidental is a mountain range in the western part of the country and has peaks of up to 13000 feet or approximately 4000 meters. The eastern part of the country includes the lowlands called the Llanos Orientales, which are part of the Orinoco River Basin. The eastern part of the country is also part of the Amazon region and Amazon River Basin and covers 60 percent of the country. The northern part is mostly made up of the Caribbean region, which also includes the Sierra Nevada de Santa Marta Mountains.
